Bonus: Plankton Buys a Glowstick
This week, we bring you our top environmental news headlines, and then sit down with The Sweaty Penguin’s Producers Shannon Damiano, Frank Hernandez, and Caroline Koehl to discuss some updates and clarifications on our Traffic, Lawn Pesticides, Yosemite National Park, and Lead Paint episodes, as well as how each issue has developed during the coronavirus pandemic.
Environmental issues are always evolving and developing, especially in the middle of a global pandemic, which is why we’ve decided to periodically go back to previous topics and share some updates, as well as hit a wider array of environmental news. I find it a little silly to reflect on such a reflective episode here, so I’ll keep this short.
An important point, assuming you’ve listened to the Lawn Pesticides episode, is that the Danger, Warning, and Caution labels on pesticides are a further subcategorization of the pesticides that the EPA has classified as safe, not a categorization of all pesticides. The EPA has already banned several pesticides deemed too toxic for use. In our conversation in that episode, we discuss banning or further regulating currently legal pesticides, but missed that important distinction. We work hard to check our facts with multiple sources and interview experts to confirm the information we share, and as part of our dedication to getting the facts right, we will always admit if we say something wrong or phrase something confusingly. Please reach out to us if you want to suggest a correction and we’ll look into it!
If you haven’t had the chance to listen to our first four episodes yet, this week is your chance to catch up! If you are caught up, I hope you enjoy this special bonus episode!
